Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the role of Vacuum-Assisted Closure Therapy in the treatment of exposed bone or tendon hand burns in the pediatric patient
Methods: A prospective study of 16 pediatric patients with exposed bone or tendon hand burns is treated at the pediatric burn department in the National Burns Hospital from 2/2021 to 9/2022. Evaluation of negative pressure therapy results based on an assessment of wound healing and skin graft surgery results. The data is processed by the software SPSS. 20.0.
Results: Gender: Male and female are 62.5% and 37.5%; under 5 years old account for 68.75%. Most of the cases related to low voltage electricity in 97.35%. 16 patients had deep burn areas and exposed bones in their wounds with mean areas of 7.5cm2 and 3.6cm2 (range 1 - 7cm). The number of surgeries was 2 times. The mean duration of VAC therapy in our study was 14 days. The average wound healing time was 28 days.
Conclusion: Results from the study shows that Vacuum - Assisted Closure Therapy in the treatment of exposed bone or tendon hand burns in pediatric patient is effective in contributing to wound bed preparation and promoting wound healing
