Liền vết thương là một quá trình phức tạp, có sự tham gia của nhiều loại tế bào, xảy ra trên da, nhằm mục đích phục hồi hàng rào bảo vệ của cơ thể. Quá trình này bao gồm các nỗ lực phối hợp của nhiều loại tế bào như keratinocytes, fibroblasts, tế bào nội mô, đại thực bào và tiểu cầu. Sự di chuyển, xâm nhập vào nơi tổn thương, tăng sinh và biệt hóa của các tế bào này sẽ đạt đến đỉnh điểm trong một đáp ứng viêm, sự hình thành mô mới và cuối cùng là đóng vết thương.
