Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the analgesic effectiveness of Nefopam and Morphine mixture in patients with burn necrosis excision and auto-skin grafting and its side effects.
Subjects and methods: A comparative, prospective study was conducted on 64 burnt patients who were divided into 2 groups, with an indication for necrosis excision and auto skin grafting. Postoperatively, 30 patients received continuous Morphine infusion (group M) and 34 patients received a continuous infusion of Nefopam and Morphin mixture (group N) for pain management. Evaluating analgesic levels in patients of both groups with a visual analog scale (VAS).
Results: VAS scores at rest at H0, H3, Hkt in group N were significantly lower than those in group M (2.65 ± 0.59 vs 2.90 ± 0.30; 2.53 ± 0.56 vs 2.53 ± 0.73; 2.38 ± 0.49 vs 2.90 ± 0.40) (p<0.05). VAS scores on movement at H6, H9, Hkt in group N were statistically significantly lower compared with group M (3.38 ± 0.55 vs 3.70 ± 0.70; 3.29 ± 0.46 vs 3.60 ± 0.56; 3.24 ± 0.55 vs 3.83 ± 0.37) (p < 0.05). At other times, the difference in VAS scores at rest and on movement between the two groups was statistically insignificant. The proportion of satisfied patients was high in both groups.
Conclusion: IV continuous infusion of Nefopam and Morphine mixture had good analgesic efficacy after burn necrosis excision and auto skin grafting. The satisfaction level of patients with the analgesia method was high, the side effects were mild and subtle.
