Spinal anaesthesia for laparoscopic appendectomy in a patient with co-morbidity diseases
Main Article Content
Abstract
Laparoscopic appendectomy is normally made under general anaesthesia, but regional techniques have been found beneficial in a lot of situations with comorbidity diseases e.g pulmonary or cardiovascular diseases.
We present a case of a 75-year-old female patient with various comorbidity diseases including hypertension, diabetes mellitus, bronchiectasis, and second-degree heart failure who was undergone laparoscopic appendectomy under spinal anaesthesia. At the time of admission, the blood level of glucose was 30.4 mmol/l, bronchiectasis in the lower lobe of both lungs on the chest x-ray, mild mitral regurgitation, left atrial dilation, ejection fraction (EF) 40%, and atrial fibrillation on the heart ultrasound and electrocardiogram. Laparoscopic appendectomy was made successfully under spinal anaesthesia with heavy bupivacaine 0.5%. There weren’t postoperative complications and the patient was discharged 5 days after the surgery.
