Abstract

The target study was evaluated as the result of thumb replantation surgery by using the microsurgery technique at the Department of Maxillofacial, Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery at Viet Duc Hospital from September 2020 to August 2022.
The results showed that the survival rate of thumb amputation after replantation surgery by microsurgery technique was 100%, there were 2 cases of partial necrosis and no cases of total necrosis. Survival outcome of replanted thumb was related to lesion morphology (p = 0.002), proper preservation of severed thumb (p = 0.04). Patients with live thumb replantation had a significantly lower ischemic time than patients with partial necrosis of the skin margin (p = 0.02). 40% of patients recover the sensation of hot and cold to normal.
The results of measuring muscle strength showed that most of the patients reached the level of 75-100%. 40% of patients had good hand function recovery. Adequate rehabilitation exercises help to restore the motor function and restore the general function of the hand better (p < 0.05).
