Abstract

Aim: To evaluate initially the effectiveness of superficial radiation therapy combined with surgery in treating post-burn ulcer scars.
Patients and methods: 10 patients were diagnosed with Marjolin’ulcer post-burn, with treatment by surgery in combination with superficial radiation therapy from October 2020 to September 2022 at the Plastic Surgery Department - of Le Huu Trac National Burn Hospital.
Results: Initially treated with superficial radiation therapy combined with skin graft surgery in 9 patients with squamous cell carcinoma and flap transfer for 1 patient with basal cell carcinoma. Skin graft and flap survived completely.
Conclusion: Superficial radiation therapy combined with surgery showed positive initial results; all patients no longer detected signs of cancer cell invasion after up to 2 radiotherapy procedures, especially deeply non-invasive Marjolin’ulcer lesions.
