Abstract

Post-burn hand wounds with exposed tendons or bone often require a benefit in functional and aesthetic outcomes. We report results in 9 patients with complex dorsal finger and digit wounds who underwent soft-tissue reconstruction using a turnover adipofascial flap and skin grafting. The mean patient age was 33 years. Mechanisms of burn injury include five electric burns and four thermal burns. Flap sizes varied from (2 x 5)cm to (4 x 7)cm, involving the thumb in two patients, the index finger in four patients, long finger in two patients. Eight skin grafts over the flap survival were 100%. One flap was primarily closed. All defects were healed at follow-up, and there were no donor site complications. The adipofascial flap is a good alternative to free tissue transfer for the coverage of complex finger and digit soft-tissue defects and is associated with an easy technique, good cosmetic results, and minimal donor site morbidity.
