Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of the combined surgical approach of lymphatic vein microsurgery and liposuction in the treatment of lymphedema.
Subjects and methods: Prospective study, longitudinal follow-up of 10 patients with lymphedema who underwent combined surgery of lymphatic vein microsurgery and liposuction at the Center for Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery - Le Huu Trac National Burn Hospital from November 2020 to October 2022.
Results: The degree of reduction in circumference of the edematous arms and legs after surgery showed a gradual decrease over time after 24 hours, 1 month and 6 months (statistically significant, p < 0.05). After 6 months of surgery, only 01 patient (10%) still had symptoms of numbness in the edematous extremities, the remaining patients did not feel any tension or pain in the edematous extremities. According to the LYMQoL assessment table, the mean and each criterion score (function, appearance, symptoms, and psychology) after surgery were lower than the preoperative scores art.
Conclusion: Lymphatic-venous anastomosis combined with liposuction is a highly effective method in the treatment of lymphedema in reducing limb circumference, improving symptoms in edematous extremities as well as improving quality of life. patient life.
