Assessment of the emergency situation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation of nurses at the Le Huu Trac National Burn Hospital

Abstract

Aims: The objective of the study was to assess the current status of cardiopulmonary resuscitation of nurses at Le Huu Trac National Burn Hospital. Descriptive, cross-sectional study.
Subjects and methods: Survey on the theory of cardiopulmonary resuscitation on 120 nurses working at the hospital and evaluate practical skills 41 times of detecting and handling patients with the circulatory arrest of nurses from 1/7/2022 - 31/03/2023 at the intensive care unit and Wound Healing Center. Only take cardiopulmonary resuscitation during office hours, enough emergency crews, the observer standing beside and do not participate in the emergency. Evaluation through checklists according to the procedures of the Ministry of Health.
Results: Out of 120 nurses who were theoretically surveyed, 20 nurses failed (accounting for 16.67%); 100 nurses passed, accounting for 83.33%, of which excellent accounts for the highest percentage (35%). The age, length of time working time in the medical profession, and working time at the hospital were significantly higher for the nurses who did not pass than the subjects who passed (p < 0.001). In contrast, the pass the exam subjects mainly worked in the ICU and spent significantly more time in the ICU than those who did not pass the exam (p < 0.05).
All 41 times of performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation nursing were successful, of which 33 nurses were assessed as mastered (accounting for 80.49%), and 8 nurses at the level of achieving (19.51%).); level of “mastery” related to the work unit.
Conclusions: All nurses have expertise in cardiopulmonary resuscitation practice; in which, the level of "mastery" occupies the majority. The factors related to the results of the survey on the theory of cardiopulmonary resuscitation include age, work unit, and working time.
Request: We recommend building a training program to update the knowledge and skills of cardiopulmonary resuscitation for nurses in clinical departments every year, focusing on those who have been transferred to the ICU for many years or have never worked at the ICU.
