The situation of anxiety and the need for psychiatric support in patients before thyroid surgery at the National Hospital of Endocrinology

Abstract
Objective: To describe the current state of anxiety and the need for psychological support in patients before thyroid surgery at the National Hospital of Endocrinology and some related factors.
Subjects and research methods: Using the cross-sectional descriptive design, a lathe sample was 197 patients admitted to National Hospital Endocrinology for thyroid surgery from 4/2022 to 6/2022.
Research results: 65% of patients are afraid of complications after surgery, 58.4% are afraid of pain after surgery, 46.7% of patients are afraid of not waking up after anesthesia, surgery, 44.2% of patients were afraid of thyroid nodules left after surgery, 41.1% of patients died due to anesthesia and surgery. The average score of need for social support is 24.02 ± 6.01. Factors related to actual anxiety: Waiting time for surgery, number of relatives taking care of during hospital stay.
Conclusion: Nurses need to implement anxiety-reducing interventions
