Survey the knowledge of nurses about blood transfusion and operation compliance with blood transfusion safety procedures at National Burn Hospital

Abstract

Aim: To survey the knowledge of nurses about blood transfusion and the nurses' compliance with blood transfusion safety procedures at Le Huu Trac National Burn Hospital.
Material and methods: A total of 130 nurses. Using the questionnaire to survey knowledge about blood transfusion safety. The proportion of correct answers <50% are classified as poor; 50% to 75% is moderate, and > 75% is good. The retrospective method was used to monitor 602 blood transfusions from July 2022 to April 2023.
Results: The percentage of correct answers was 71.1% (46.7% to 100%). The percentage of >50% correct answers was 83.3% (25/30). The percentage of correct answers about the safest blood donor and selected plasma for transfusion in ABO blood type was 20% and 16.7%, respectively. 100% had blood reserve before receiving; Blood and specimen had sufficient information; Blood and plasma were transport appropriate. 100% had a pre-transfusion check; Determination of blood group at the hospital bed; Maintained the specified baud rate; Monitor during blood transfusion; Do not add any substance to the blood bag during transfusion; Ensure the correct time for blood transfusion as prescribed; Complete records of blood transfusion.
Conclusion: General knowledge about blood transfusion safety of nurses is average. The nurse's blood transfusion safety practices are good.
