Abstract
Objectives: Survey of knowledge about complications and related factors among type 2 diabetic patients in 108 Military Central Hospital.
Subject and Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted with 120 type 2 diabetic patients at the Department of Endocrinology in 108 Military Central Hospital from January 2023 to June 2023.
Results: Patients with adequate knowledge account was 19.1%, lack of knowledge was 26.8%, and there is a complete lack of knowledge was 54.1%. Common complications of diabetes that patients know were: Foot ulcers (45.8%), hypertension (35.8%), neuropathy (29.1%), slow wound healing (22.5%), eye disease (21.6%), and cardiovascular disease (15.8%). There is a relationship between age, place of residence, occupation, period of regular re-examination with knowledge of complications of subjects. The difference was statistically significant (p<0.05)
Conclusion: The percentage of patients with adequate knowledge of complications of diabetes was low, only 19.1%. There is a relationship between knowledge and age, place of residence, occupation, and period of regular re-examination. Therefore, health education for patients was extremely important, promoting healthy self-care behaviors and preventing dangerous complications of diabetes.
