Assessing the knowledge, practice and identification of some relevant factors about wound care of nurses at a hospital in Hanoi, Vietnam

Abstract

Background: Good wound care will limit secondary infections, create conditions for the wound to recover quickly, limit economic losses for the patient and create trust from the patient and family members. Patients to medical staff in general and nurses in particular study.
Objectives: The study aimed to evaluate the knowledge and practice of wound care among surgical nurses and identify factors associated with them at Ha Dong General Hospital in 2023.
Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 76 surgical clinical nurses from January to September 2023.
Result: The average age was 35.6 ± 6.8 years old, with females comprising 89.5% of the sample. Knowledge about wound care was generally high at 82.9%, with the highest knowledge observed in health education for patients (81.6%) and the lowest in infected wound care (64.5%). Practice in wound care was reported at 98.6%. The study found that knowledge of wound care correlated with the department of work, while wound care practice correlated with age group, years of experience, and years of experience in the department (p < 0.05).
Conclusion: Knowledge about wound care is associated with the department of work, while wound care practice is influenced by age group and years of experience, both overall and within the department.
