Research on the application of cold plasma technology in supportive treatment and healing of burns wounds
Main Article Content
Abstract
Plasma is the fourth state of matter, including natural and man-made plasma. In which artificial plasma is divided into 2 types: thermal plasma and cold plasma. Plasma was created by British chemist and physicist William Crookes in 1879.
Plasma has been used in medicine for a long time: sterilization surface of implanted materials, sterilization of medical instruments, wound treatment. Cold plasma is used in sterilization: Killing bacteria very quickly, killing fungi and inhibiting the growth of viruses.
Because of that, in recent times we have researched cold Plasma irradiation as a supportive treatment for burn wounds, which has brought about some positive results that were approved by the project report at the Ministry of Health, so we conducted the project: 'Application of cold Plasma technology in supporting the healing of burn wounds."
Objective: Survey the clinical characteristics of burn patients treated with cold plasma rays. Research on the effectiveness of burn treatment using cold plasma radiation.
Subjects and methods: Includes 30 burn patients treated with cold plasma radiation at the Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery, Center for Orthopedics - Plastic Surgery, Hue Central Hospital from January 2022 to June 2024.
Results: Research on 30 burn patients treated with cold Plasma rays at Hue Central Hospital:
- The ratio of men is higher than that of women, male/female: 56.67%/43.33%,
- Common causes are wet heat and dry heat burns, accounting for 93.4%,
- Most were admitted to the hospital before 6 o'clock, accounting for 96.7%.
- The most common location is the upper limb, accounting for 70% (21/30).
- The majority of patients had burn wounds when included in the study with edema, congestion, and scald wounds accounting for 73.33%.
- In the patients in the study, the average burn area was 7.7 ± 4.1%, the smallest was 1% and the largest was 20%.
- Most of the cases were completely healing before 4 weeks, accounting for 76.67%, with 6 cases of red granulation tissue undergoing skin graft surgery, accounting for 20%.
- No complications occurred during cold plasma therapy.
- Average treatment days are 15.4 ± 5.7 days.
- There is a correlation between the number of days of wound healing and the number of days of treatment
Conclusion: Cold Plasma rays contribute to the healing process of burn wounds...
