A survey on blood product utilization at the National Burn Hospital in 2024
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the utilization of blood components at the National Burn Hospital in 2024.
Subjects and methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on all patients who received blood transfusions at the National Burn Hospital from January to December 2024. The study indicators included: Number of blood components by type, blood group, clinical department, and monthly trends.
Results: In 2024, the total number of blood units used was 5,228. Plasma accounted for the highest proportion, followed by red blood cells (RBCs) and platelet concentrates (PCs). Blood group O was used most frequently (41.2%), followed by group B (26.7%), group A (26.3%), and group AB (5.9%). The Department of Intensive Care (HSCC) consumed the largest volume (3,290 units, accounting for 62.9% of the total). Utilization demand increased markedly from March to December, while a decrease was observed in January-February and June.
Conclusion: The demand for blood utilization at the National Burn Hospital remained high, with the majority concentrated in the Department of Intensive Care. Monthly fluctuations reflected seasonal patterns and the severity of admitted patients. These findings provide important implications for blood supply planning and management within the hospital.
