Quality of life and associated factors among patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis at Dong Da General Hospital in 2025

Abstract

Objectives: To assess quality of life and associated factors in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis at DongDa General Hospital.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 81 hemodialysis patients. The Kidney Disease Quality of Life 36-Item (KDQOL-36) was used to assess their quality of life.
Results: The mean scores were as follows: Burden of Kidney Disease 36.7 ± 14.4; physical component summary 47.9 ± 30.7; mental component summary 54.8 ± 19.9; symptoms and problems of kidney disease 73.3 ± 12.2; and effects of kidney disease 75.4 ± 8.4. Statistically significant differences were observed in several KDQOL-36 domain scores according to age, educational level, occupation, duration of hemodialysis, household income, affordability of healthcare services, social status, and body mass index (p < 0.05).
Conclusion: Among patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis at DongDa General Hospital, the lowest domain score was observed for Burden of Kidney Disease, whereas the highest score was observed for Effects of Kidney Disease. Appropriate interventions are needed to improve the quality of life of this patient population.
