Main Article Content
Abstract
This study describes the nutritional status and investigates several factors related to the nutritional status of hemodialysis patients at Nghe An Friendship General Hospital.
Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients undergoing hemodialysis, aged 18-80 years old, at the Nephrology - Urology - Dialysis Department, Nghe An Friendship General Hospital, from January to August 2025.
Results: The study included 98 patients with an average age of 49.68 ± 17.7, with the age group ≥ 60 accounting for 29.6%. Females accounted for 43.9% and males for 56.1%. The rate of malnutrition when assessed by BMI was 17.3%, the prevalence of overweight was 8.2%. The malnutrition rate according to SGA was 68.3%, including 16.3% severe malnutrition and 52% moderate malnutrition. The malnutrition rate assessed using albumin was high at 51%. Factors related to nutritional status included: physical activity, individualized nutritional counseling, and access to nutritional counseling materials.
Conclusion: The malnutrition rate among patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis is very high; related factors include: physical activity, individualized nutritional counseling, and access to nutritional counseling materials.
