Efficacy of Fractional Carbon Dioxide Laser in rehabilitation of large joints with contracture scar in post-burn patients
Main Article Content
Abstract
Aims: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of fractional carbon dioxide laser in the rehabilitation of motor function in large joints with contracture scars in post-burn patients. Histological evaluation to change fibroblast of biopsy specimen scar before and after the laser procedure.
Subjects and methods: A prospective research study conducted on 20 patients, regardless of age, with mild contracture scars at large joints after a burn at the National Burn Hospital, patients receive laser Fractional therapy every 2 weeks to assess the patient's effectiveness in improving motor function. Biopsy, evaluation of changes in the histological structure of the scar before and after treatment.
Results: There was an improvement in the mobility of the joints, the scarring index according to Vancouver (VSS) and POSAS showed significant reduction following treatment (p < 0.001). Changes in the histological structure of the scar after the treatment showed a decrease in fibroblasts and mature fibroblasts, more collagen fibers appear.
Conclusion: Fractional laser therapy in rehabilitation of motor functions after burns is safe and effective for patients.
