Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives: To describe knowledge, safe-injection practices, and selected factors associated with safe-injection practices among students at Bac Giang College in 2026.
Subjects and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 112 students undertaking clinical practice at Bac Ninh Provincial General Hospital No. 1 from March to August 2026. Knowledge was assessed using a 30-item questionnaire, and practice was assessed using a 22-step checklist based on the Ministry of Health safe-injection guidance. Each student was observed during one actual injection procedure.
Results: The proportion of students demonstrating adequate knowledge of safe injection practices was 67.9%, while 32.1% demonstrated adequate practice; significant limitations were observed regarding the immediate handling of sharps and post-injection patient instructions. A statistically significant association was found between the students' knowledge and practice regarding safe injections (p < 0.05).
Conclusion: While 67.9% of students demonstrated adequate knowledge regarding safe injection practices, the rate of proficient practice was low (32.1%); significant shortcomings were observed in the immediate disposal of sharps and the provision of post-injection instructions to patients. Knowledge of safe injection practices, gender, and academic year were factors statistically significantly associated with students' safe injection skills (p < 0.05).
